This second excerpt from our latest commercial shoot for a fashion brand look book is today's blog. This is one of the Portraits that I thought turned out best in our objective to have the model really stand out against the deep background in a way that turns her presence into the strongest aspect of the image. The plain brick wall with deep depth of field was also intended for that purpose as it best pops the subject out. Lighting creates the textures and the white skin we wanted to achieve leaving all the attention to the Designer's creations and his model. A shallow depth of field would have worked well with a 50mm or 35mm lens and a stronger natural light and softer lighting such as a soft box to create a more centered focus. That is why we have added a medium vignetting to the post production edition that helps bring the eye toward the center. But a grey day and narrow space for the shoot forced us to go with a wide angle lens @24mm and a speedlight diffused through umbrella. Such was our technical challenge. The look book version is color obviously but I thought the B&W version was the better Blog choice for ambiance.

second extrait de notre plus récent travail pour le look book d'une
marque de Montréal est le Blogue du jour. Il s'agit d'un des
portraits qui a le mieux réussi à mon avis dans notre objectif de
voir la modèle prendre une présence forte sur l'arrière plan et
que sa peau soit la plus blanche que possible au naturel. Le mur de
briques blanc avec profondeur de champs maximum a aussi été mise en
œuvre pour cette raison car cela contribue fortement à faire
ressortir le sujet vers l'avant. La lumière intense crée la texture
et la peau blanche que nous voulions obtenir afin de laisser toute
l'attention à la modèle et au vêtements du créateur. Une faible
profondeur de champs aurait aussi bien fonctionné avec un objectif
50mm ou 35mm et une lumière naturelle plus présente en plus d'un
éclairage soft box pour créer une mise au point centrale. C'est
pourquoi nous avons ajouté un vignettage à l'édition pour ramener
l’œil au centre. Mais une journée grise et un espace très étroit
nous ont forcé d'utiliser un objectif grand angle @24mm et un
speedlight diffusé dans un parapluie. Tel était notre challenge
technique. La version du look book est en couleur évidemment mais
j'ai préféré la version Noir & Blanc pour l'ambiance portrait
pour le Blogue
