The McGill ghetto is one of Montreal's most fascinating districts. It is rich in history and architectural heritage. The urban fauna that constitutes its population is quite interesting. It was once one of the city's prominent high-end residential districts. It is now a highly educated young professional and student residence neighborhood. It is located in the Ville-Marie borough and we call this wonderful place : the McGill Ghetto
Niched between the mountain, the mile-end, the quartier latin, the retail district and the McGill campus, the McGill ghetto is photo heaven and we easily get photo happy when walking its streets. The century old grand homes now house city condominiums, McGill University institutions and student residences. Its old churches and apartment buildings are a delight to photograph.
There are many special places in the McGill ghetto such as this very particular convenience store that looks like an old farm house (it probably is)
We like capturing the essence of a neighborhood in our photographs. This means we want to show what makes a neighborhood what it is in every frame. We look for typical street corners, landmarks, alleys and typical locals.
The McGill ghetto is British culture in the middle of Montreal
Although you will find french mansard roofs, after all, even the British were influenced by New France
We now offer guided photo tours of the city's most interesting neighborhoods. Slap on your best walking shoes and come learn urban photography with our kind pro photographers
