Postcard shot

This classic cityscape is today's discussion. The classic style for postcard function was this shot's objective. This type of photo is designed to make the scene attractive to tourists by emphasizing the city's beauty and exoticism. In this example, the point of view of Old Montréal was carefully selected to create a new image, a scene not seen on current existing postcards. There is therefore an element of creativity in this image ; the opposite could have been worked as well, in the sense that a very common scene could have been worked to emphasize the city`s notorious landmarks. All depends on the clients needs. Exposure, and saturated colors are well executed and the depth of field is remarkable thanks to a textured sky obtained with appropriate settings of aperture and shutter speed. A calmer canal water surface could have produced a more spectacular reflection.

Ce paysage urbain classique est la discussion du jour. Le style classique de carte postale était l'objectif de la prise. Ce type de photographie est conçue pour rendre la scène attirante pour les touristes en accentuant les traits exotiques de la ville. Dans cet exemple, le point de vue du vieux Montréal a été soigneusement choisi pour créer une nouvelle image, une scène qui n'existe pas sur les cartes postales actuellement sur le marché. Il y a donc un élément de créativité dans cette photographie ; la stratégie opposée aurait pu être l'objectif de la prise dans la mesure ou on veut renforcer une image déjà existante d'une scène notoire de la ville. Tout dépend des besoins du client. L'exposition et les couleurs saturées sont bien exécutées et la profondeur de champs est remarquable notamment grâce au ciel très texturé obtenu avec de bons réglages d'ouverture et de vitesse d'obturation. Une surface d'eau du canal plus calme aurait produit des reflets plus spectaculaires.
