The day's blog is an image taken from my new series 'The Hochelaga Yards'. I wanted to capture the old train station and the adjacent early 20th century manufacture in the romantic and, needless to say, cinematic light of dusk. The half and half split was chosen to leave as much room for the lead in lines that the tracks provide than for the dusky sky. Moreover, the city lights on the left just outside the frame gives the gravel rocks a golden color adding to the charm of the vintage setting. The moment of the day selected for the shooting and judicious framing are the secrets to this series (click the link for the complete series)
série 'The Hochelaga Yards'.

It's funny, you take so many photos in memory of and pay homage to Montreal and this photo in particular, though named 'Hochelaga' is technically,'Montreal' because Hochelaga was what the Amerindians called Montreal all those centuries ago.
ReplyDeleteTruly breath-taking.
Thank You Sam. I am quite fond of them too. You're partly right about the history of Hochelaga. However part of Montreal and one of its most historical districts, it was once a city of its own. The City of Hochelaga Maisonneuve founded sometime in the mid 19th century was meant to become Canada's wealthiest municipality, Québec's Versailles! Bourgeois families of the rapidly growing Montreal wanted to create an elite community. Events and History has decided otherwise... :)
