The day's Blog is a portrait excerpt from our latest lifestyle shoot for Montreal Blogger Stylist Ruth. This project was special in the sens that it was done in a very unconventional of ways. We wanted the metro as our backdrop and studio, but without having to rent space in the middle of the night as it is outrageously expensive. A non permitted photo-shoot in the metro is illegal, therefore, we had to plan, direct, shoot handheld and run in several stations and underground tunnels, no special lighting or flash attracting attention, with only a fixed focal 50mm lens and on Easter Sunday to give ourselves the most chances to succeed without being arrested or mugged by street people... Needless to say this was a true effort and exercise in quick perspective spotting and quick manual settings very much the same way one would in a serious street photography session, not to mention model direction.
Out of 260 total snaps, 30 quality photos resulted, a pretty satisfying crop. My expertise in the metro and underground network and Ruth's natural beauty certainly helped us out. Here, one of the better portraits achieved on that day, at f/1.8 and high ISO with a little spot healing on the Model's less than perfect make-up, sharpening for correcting handheld shake, and light vignetting in Photoshop.

Blogue d'aujourd'hui est un portrait de notre plus récent shoot
lifestyle pour Ruth, une Blogueuse Styliste de Montréal. Ce projet a
été réalisé d'une façon non-conventionnel. Nous voulions le
métro comme scène et studio mais sans avoir à louer des espaces la
nuit puisqu'il en coûte une fortune de le faire. Une session photo
non permise dans le métro est illégal, nous devions donc planifier,
diriger, capturer en main et bouger dans plusieurs stations et
tunnels du réseau sous-terrain sans éclairage spécial ou flash
pouvant attirer l'attention sur nous, et avec un seul objectif a
focal fixe 50mm le dimanche de Pâques afin de nous donner le maximum
de chance de ne pas se faire arrêter ou agressés par des truands...
Nul besoin de souligner que cet effort fut un exercice en
reconnaissance de perspectives et réglages manuels rapides, sans
parler de la direction de la modèle.
Sur
un lot de 260 Photos, nous avons obtenu 30 Photographies de qualité,
une récolte satisfaisante dans ces circonstances. Mon expertise dans
le réseau du métro et de la ville souterraine et la beauté
naturelle de la modèle nous ont bien servi certes. Ici, un des
meilleurs portraits réalisés à f/1.8 avec réglage ISO élevé, un
peu de spot healing sur la peau de la modèle moins qu'idéalement
maquillée, une accentuation de la résolution pour corriger les
tremblements du 'caméra en main' et un vignettage léger dans
Photoshop
